2019 // A Year of Firsts. Global Film Series Elevates the Voices of GGRF

What does it take to rise above cultural traditions and envision a brighter future?

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Jaybird, the leader in sport headphones for runners, announced its final “Run Wild” episode, Elevate, featuring two-time UTMB winner Rory Bosio and the Girls Gotta Run Foundation in Ethiopia. In the episode, Bosio explores running culture in and around Bekoji - birthplace to some of the world's greatest runners - and how the Girls Gotta Run Foundation empowers young women through running.

In honor of IWD 2019Jaybird set out to provide every member of Girls Gotta Run with a new pair of running shoes and a running outfit through fundraising and donating five dollars for every pair of headphones sold through the end of March. Every $75 raised providesd one girl with a full running kit. Join us in helping empower and create a brighter future for Ethiopian women.

Jaybird Sport raised enough money to outfit every GGRF Athletic Scholar with running clothes. We were proud to provide quality training gear to all of our Scholars thanks to the generous support of Jaybird, and we were also proud to elevate the stories of GGRF Athletic Scholars through the RUN WILD global film series.

“I will not stop because of the fatigue, because I think about my future life. Today's tiredness won’t matter.”  - GGRF Bekoji Athletic Scholar Derartu, age 14.

Derartu Tulu was the first Olympian to come from Bekoji, Ethiopia and the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal. In honor of Women's History Month, we elevate the stories of the girls who walk in her foot steps. The next generation of female movers and shakers in Bekoji and Ethiopia.
